Reintroducing Visionix — Luneau Technology launches as “Visionix” to manufacture and sell Optovue, Visionix, Briot and Weco brands

Visionix unveils its new identity and showcases an expanded suite of advanced visual health solutions at VEE 2022, Optovue Inc. becomes a product brand for its OCT line

Bensenville, IL: :
Luneau Technology Group recently announced that it will take on “Visionix” as its official global name beginning March 31, 2022, unveiling a combined booth at Vision Expo East. As mentioned in the recent global announcement, “Optovue” will transition to a product brand for Visionix’s OCT and OCTA line.

A global brand transition

Headquartered in France, Visionix is a world-class player in visual healthcare. The company develops, manufactures, and markets ophthalmic equipment from refraction and multimodal diagnostic devices; to lens finishing equipment. The Visionix brand comprises the formerly individual brands of Luneau Technology, Briot (finishing), Weco (finishing), Visionix (diagnosis and refraction), Next Sight (fundus camera and telehealth solutions) and Optovue (high-speed OCT and OCTA technology). The new Visionix company will be the global sales, service, and training provider for all product brands, integrating core refractive, screening, and imaging technologies to address the needs of eye care professionals.

The Visionix product line, the company’s flagship brand, was founded by CEO and President Marc Abitbol Ph.D. in1994 as a research and development lab for applications in wavefront-based technology. Within the last three decades, the company has expanded its range of offerings with the addition of other specialty brands like Briot and Weco (acquired in 2010) and Optovue (merged in 2021).

Today, the group has 700 employees in 120 countries, and offers a wide range of products. “We have grown our business significantly over the past several years, and our new brand reflects that transformation,” said Dr. Abitbol. “Our new identity is innovative, modern, and professional—words we use to describe who we are as an organization but also the technology solutions we provide to our customers who want to expand their business.” Dr. Abitbol added, “Today, Visionix offers an integrated range of multimodal products primarily serving eye care professionals. Our ambition is to be a world-class leader and the first choice for helping providers simplify their patients’ access to visual health.”

North America: What is changing?

North America is a primary focus of the new group. There are fewer than 700,000 eye care professionals globally for a 7.2 billion population, resulting in delayed access to ophthalmic care. Automated and integrated Visionix technologies were designed to assist in closing this gap and to help practices grow and serve more patients.

As a result of the merger with Optovue, the North American organization tripled its team of field representatives for Sales, Service, and Clinical Application, introducing more specialized professionals to consult with ECPs throughout the buying process and beyond. Dan McNulty continues to lead the expanded team as President for its commercial organization in North America.

According to McNulty, “Our goal has been and will always be to improve access to forward-thinking technology that transforms the patient experience. The addition of Optovue into our range of offerings for the medical eye care market makes us an ideal partner because we are uniquely positioned to provide a complete end-to-end solution in retail, refraction, and medical markets for primary eye care.”

Visionix: New technology to help Practitioners detect a range of eye health symptoms

For the first time at Vision Expo East, Visionix will introduce a remote-ready refraction and screening technology suite integrating its most advanced multi-modal devices. The next-generation Visionix platforms offer varying levels of patient data integration, and the most advanced solutions offer multiple test functionalities in a single device—providing all necessary data for a comprehensive exam with significantly less patient movement from instrument to instrument.

The second-generation Eye Refract is a highly automated and dynamic binocular, wavefront-based refraction system that includes a digital acuity short chart and the VX40 lens analyzer.
The newest addition to its multi-modal screening line is VX650 which combines a 45-degree fundus camera with a plethora of technologies in one single device, including: Shack-Hartmann Wavefront based anterior segment analysis, including Autorefraction/ Keratometry, Placido Ring Corneal Topography, Anterior/Posterior Corneal Tomography, Aberrometry, Retro-Illumination, Anterior Chamber Analysis, Pachymetry, Scheimpflug Imaging, and Non-Contact Tonometry.

VX650 integrates seamlessly with the compact Eye Refract and can be placed on a single tabletop or set up separately in a five square feet pre-test room, offering a complete suite with a small footprint. The optional table’s ergonomic design even allows a wheelchair to fit comfortably, an excellent benefit for practitioners who see patients with mobility issues.

Optovue: An OCT and OCTA for every practice

The company will be unveiling its expanded product line at Vision Expo East, with a wide range of OCT technology alongside its screening, refraction, and optical brands. The Optovue line offers high-speed OCT and OCT-A technology to equip providers with the best imaging tools to diagnose and manage eye diseases. The company’s most advanced solution today is the Optovue Avanti® Widefield OCT which offers state-of-the-art imaging from the cornea to the choroid with exclusive technology that will change your approach to disease diagnosis and management.

ECPs can add Optovue AngioVue® OCT Angiography (OCTA) to the Avanti platform to bring non-invasive vascular imaging with measurement tools to your practice. Practices can ease into OCTA with AngioVue Essential or choose AngioVue Comprehensive to access all available OCTA features.

Briot and Weco: Continuing a legacy in Optical innovation

The company’s legacy brands, Weco and Briot, were established in 1913 and 1936, respectively; and continue to be the leading brands in finishing technology platforms for Optical and Retail practices. Briot® Couture, its newest edger initially unveiled at Vision Expo West 2021, makes its debut at Vision Expo East. It is a highly intuitive finishing solution for any Optical that combines an edger with a state-of-the-art tracer-blocker unit.

Inspired by the popular Briot® Attitude edger, Couture is the first finishing platform that is powered by virtual 3D rendering technology, allowing Opticians to visualize the final output before edging. A range of finishing technologies will be available for a live demo and ROI consultation at Vision Expo East.

ECPs can experience the new products firsthand by requesting a live demo or scheduling a virtual demo with a Clinical and Optical Specialist. These new technologies aim to transform and improve access to all patients in the United States and Canada and help preserve their visual health. To learn more, visit http://www.visionix.com/demo

Luneau Technology introduces an innovative Briot solution to help the Master Optician stay in control of lens fit and quality

Bensenville, IL: : Luneau Technology is pleased to introduce the Briot Couture, a highly intuitive lens finishing system suitable for any optical store. Briot Couture is Luneau Technology’s newest and most advanced finishing platform yet. It combines everything that is in the Briot Attitude with the world’s first virtual 3D lens rendering technology to simplify the finishing process for all optician skill levels from Master Optician to Entry Level Optician.

“The new Briot Couture System, building off our Briot Attitude System, provides three new and exciting innovations that will take the production of high-quality eyewear to a whole new level,” says John Vulich, Optical Application Specialist, Luneau Technology. “The three new features are True Fit Beveling, Virtual 3D Lens Simulation, and a Torque Management System. They allow the Briot Couture to measure frame thickness, frame depth, as well as frame groove position, to produce the perfect fit every time.”

Produce quality eyewear in-house quickly and accurately

This unique edger can increase in-house finishing capability and quality while reducing the rate of remakes. It is suitable for any business owner who wishes to complete more sophisticated finishing in-house and to save on their lab bills.

“Having demonstrated the Briot Couture at Vision Expo West, I’m excited to say we have improved upon our already terrific ability to fine tune the quality of eyewear produced by our edger,” says Ron Reed, Customer Support and Maintenance Manager, Luneau Technology. “In short, we’ve managed to shun the status quo and take quality eyewear produced by our customers from good to great.”

Using various frame and lens parameters along with Virtual 3D Lens Simulation, a user can display how a lens fits into a frame before beginning the edging process. This allows the optician to confirm fit before edging. The True Fit Bevel chooses the best bevel position and bevel depth/width to fit the lens into the chosen frame with the least amount of stress on the frame and lens. The 3D Visualization allows for a 3D view of the lens fitting within the frame to determine the best lens type for the chosen frame as well as to confirm possible stress points for the lens fitting. The Torque Management System optimizes the edging cycle time without the risk of lens slippage.

With these intelligent new features, any trained staff member can offer a personalized buying experience to customers by finding the optimum lens for their frame and show them in real-time a 3D rendering of their glasses. This means optical stores can now produce premium quality eyewear with a quick turnaround.

Who can benefit from the Briot Couture?

The Briot Couture is perfect for any mid to high end optical, especially those eyewear shops where customers demand the highest quality aesthetics, quality, and fit. The Briot Couture empowers optical shop owners to widen their search for lab personnel since it reduces the skill level necessary to expertly fabricate eyewear. With the Briot Couture, a business owner can keep the most challenging jobs in-house, maximizing their lab savings. For those stores that already have an edger, regardless of brand, and are ready to upgrade, then the Briot Couture may be the right choice for them.

As an added bonus, Luneau Technology reinvented its service platform earlier this year to provide exceptional value to customers. “Based on the number of lens cuts, we now offer low volume, mid volume and high-volume preventative maintenance plans that will affirm your ability to edge lenses quickly, with improved quality, and eliminate service interruptions,” explains Reed.

ECPs who are interested in learning more about the Briot Couture or any other product, please reach out to luneautechusa.com/virtualdemo to book a virtual demo and ROI consultation.

The combined entities will offer a more comprehensive portfolio for the growing practice

Bensenville, IL: France-based Luneau Technology Group recently announced its merger with Optovue Inc, a privately held medical device company, headquartered in Fremont, California. Founded by Jay Wei in 2003, Optovue develops high-speed OCT and OCT-A technology to diagnose and manage eye diseases. Luneau Technology pioneered wavefront-based diagnostic and finishing solutions and led the development of highly automated solutions for the past 15 years.

A stronger global organization to drive vision care innovation

Dr. Marc Abitbol, CEO of Luneau Technology, will preside over the newly merged company, while Optovue CEO Peter Wyles will join the global leadership team. “It’s unprecedented what we will do together,” says Abitbol. “We’re two agile companies with a startup mentality of innovation and flexibility. Together, we now have a full pipeline that covers everything for visual health. Optovue’s OCT expertise, stellar reputation and primary position in the medical eye care market, and complementary portfolio of products, make us an ideal partner, so our combined company can offer complete end-to-end solutions in retail, refraction and medical markets for primary eye care.” The group has combined sales of $176 million, 700 employees in 120 countries, and offers a wide range of products. It sees tremendous growth opportunities in a market estimated to be worth $3 billion.

Emerging technologies to help Practitioners detect and manage eye health symptoms

With the largest ophthalmic market, North America is a primary focus of the new group. There are fewer than 700,000 eye care professionals in the world for a 7.2 billion population which means not enough professionals to take care of eye health problems, from refraction to diagnostics. This is where automated technologies from the combined group can help.

Right before this global release, Luneau Technology USA announced that its new Visionix VX650, an industry-first technology with multimodal anterior and posterior segment analysis, is now FDA-approved and available for sale in the United States. ECPs can experience the new product firsthand by requesting a live demo at Luneau Technology’s Vision Expo West booth or by scheduling a virtual demo with a Sales and Clinical Application Specialist. Later this year, Optovue will also be launching a new OCT-A screening device. “One technology will look at the front of the eye, like a camera, and the other the back of the eye so our technologies are very complementary,” Abitbol adds. These new technologies aim to transform and improve access to all patients in the United States and Canada, to help preserve their visual health. To learn more, visit luneautechusa.com/press-releases and to watch Dr. Abitbol’s full interview.

Luneau Technology USA introduces a comprehensive multi-modal assessment device to help clinicians identify and detect the early signs of visual and ocular pathologies

Bensenville, IL: Continuing a string of new product launches, Luneau Technology is pleased to introduce a unique and advanced ocular measuring device with retinal screening called the Visionix® VX650. It is a highly automated, multi-modal device that can deliver a comprehensive eye exam in minutes.

With the push of a button, the operator of this device can retrieve precise screening data on the entire anterior and posterior eye segments to identify and detect the early signs of cataracts, glaucoma, retinal and corneal pathologies. Unlike other devices on the market, only the Visionix VX650 can offer early detection of anterior and posterior ocular pathologies in a single device. This allows a clinician to identify a patient’s symptoms early on and to monitor them by staying on top of their ocular health. The VX650 also offers effective detection and management of keratoconus which can help build a scleral lens practice.

Comprehensive screening data in minutes

The VX650 boasts the combined technologies of a 45-degree fundus camera along with topography, wavefront aberrometry, tomography and retinal screening. These enhancements allow it to quickly evaluate both the anterior and posterior eye segments. By using the VX650 for ocular health screening on patients in the pre-test room, an eyecare professional (ECP) can improve their workflow efficiency and highlight those issues that need additional clinical testing. It is so efficient it can decrease a patient’s movement and time in the pre-test room while still providing a comprehensive eye exam. Data results are accurate and reproducible, regardless of operator competency, and can be made available for HIPAA-compliant data sharing onsite and remotely. A licensed practitioner can review data collected from the VX650 by a technician from anywhere.

All the clinical benefits of multiple instruments in one device

“The clinical value of the VX650 puts comprehensive anterior and posterior segment data at your fingertips,”says Melissa Renfrow, a Clinical Application Specialist at Luneau Technology. “Our product engineers found a way to incorporate seven devices into one instrument to give you unmatched clinical versatility, and all the screening data you need for an effective patient consultation.” She is working with a doctor who implemented the VX650 into her practice. “One of her patients thought she knew everything because she had this depth of data available to her during the consultation, and so it elevated the patient’s perception of her as a provider,” she explains.

The VX650 combines test modalities that have previously been available from multiple instruments into just one adjustable instrument table that measures 20’ by 32’. By incorporating seven instruments into one, Luneau Technology has engineered a unique device that can provide all the data you need. ECPs who are interested in learning more about the VX650 or any other Visionix technology, please reach out to luneautechusa.com/virtualdemo to book a virtual demo and ROI consultation.

Who can benefit from the VX650?

The Visionix VX650 is a perfect device for a private practice or multispecialty practice, a corporate retail optical, government clinic or university clinic. Because it is EMR-ready, the VX650 allows clinicians to access patient data from a secured computer interface in another room or office. This functionality makes it an ideal choice for practice owners who are interested in a remote-ready model and an asset for cold start openings and multiple locations. Optional add-ons include a wifi-enabled Samsung tablet and table for a lens analyzer.

Together with Visionix’s Eye Refract system, an ECP can now perform a comprehensive ocular exam and refraction in just ten minutes. With this efficient setup, they can impress patients and garner positive online reviews for their practice. If a cold start practice introduces Luneau Technology’s automated and integrated technologies, they do not immediately need to have a full-time optometrist on site.

Since the VX650 is an emerging technology, independent practices can brand themselves as a “high tech” optical or position their practice as a “modern clinic”. ECPs who are interested in learning more about the VX650 or any other Visionix technology, please reach out to luneautechusa.com/virtualdemo to book a virtual demo and ROI consultation.

Company continues to grow the North American team with the addition of industry veterans, James Walker and Mary DiMauro

Bensenville, IL: :On the heels of new product and team growth announcements, Luneau Technology USA is excited to announce the addition of industry veterans James Walker and Mary DiMauro to offer more support to ECP customers. They have joined the team as Clinical Application Specialists (CAS) focusing on the southern US. In this role, they will work closely with Luneau Technology’s growing customer development team to enhance their Clinical Education Program across North America

Over 30 years of combined eye care industry experience

Walker brings over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology to this role and has extensive involvement assisting in refractive and surgical procedures. “With his background in various roles in the clinical setting, James is well positioned to be an effective partner to our customers,” says Milbien Medina, Brand Marketing Director at Luneau Technology USA. “Mary’s years of clinical field experience will allow her to provide effective clinical training and support, technology demonstrations, and a personalized implementation plan for ECPs who embrace our sophisticated Visionix solutions.”

Walker began his career in the United States Navy based in Portsmouth, Virginia. There he led, trained and co-ordinated a team of 46 corpsmen serving as surgical specialists, clinical technicians, and equipment managers. After leaving the Navy, he joined Texas Regional Eye Center as an Ophthalmic Technician. Before joining Luneau Technology, as Clinical Manager at the Ennen Eye Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas, he implemented a new business model for dry eye patients via Lipiscan, Lipiflow and Tear lab technology which increased the Center’s revenues.

DiMauro brings comprehensive experience from both practice and corporate settings to Luneau Technology. She previously worked as an Ophthalmic Technician performing refractions and administering diagnostic tests, most recently at an eyecare practice in Florida. Before this, she spent 11 years as a Senior Lead Application Specialist with a ophthalmic manufacturer, providing installations and training on advanced medical devices. DiMauro is a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.

Enhanced support for ECPs embracing new technologies

“We recognize there is some hesitation to embracing new technologies because of a perceived downtime with new platform implementation and staff adoption,” explains Medina. “Our Clinical Application Specialists are dedicated to helping our customers bridge that gap and facilitate a seamless adoption and implementation process. They are also a dedicated partner to ensure the “Voice of the Customer” is at the heart of our product enhancements and educational initiatives.”

Walker and DiMauro join fellow Clinical Application Specialists, Melissa Renfrow and Deidre Huff, in providing in-depth product training for Visionix® customers. They will work closely with Optical Application Specialist John Vulich to provide additional support to Briot customers who are looking to add a medical model to their optical business. They will also assist Clinical Technology Specialist Sal Hernandez and the national Sales Organization by supporting the full customer journey—from technology research to investment to practice implementation.
